Abadi Arefeayne, 75, of St. Paul, Minnesota, succumbed to cancer at the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on September 23, 2024.
Abadi is survived by his wife Yeshewatsehay of 72 years, daughters Salem and Semenawit, sons Selam and Seretseab grandchildren Abigail, Israel, Alazar, Abel, Hasset, Yohana and KeAb., brother Amaha Kenaw, sister Mereseit. Abadi was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.
Abadi was born on September 22, 1949 from his father Kenaw Arefeayne and his mother Medhin Kahsay in the town of Alamata in Ethiopia. He was a third child to his parents and spent his childhood at their loving and caring family home with his two brothers and a sister.
Abadi moved to the town of Dessie to attend high school when he was of age. He attended Woizero Siheen high school, upon graduation from high school he moved to the city of Aስmara to attend the Teachers Training Institute of Asmara. Upon receiving his teaching degree he moved to the Town of Asebot in Eastern Ethiopia to begin his teaching career. He met with his life long partner and wife Yeshewatsehay Desalegn in the town and lived there for about thirteen years where they bear three of their four children. 1n 1982 Abadi and his family moved to Addis Ababa, the capital city where he thought middle school math until he retired in the year 2010.
Abadi and his wife moved to the US in 2016. He was a beloved father and friend for those who knew him. He was a sincere, humble, loving, fatherly to the young and brotherly for all, treating everyone equally. We will eternally remember Abadi for his love, humility, and faith.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27th 2024 beginning at 1:00 PM at Ethiopian Evangelical Church, 770 7th Street, Saint Paul, MN. A visitation will begin one hour prior. A graveside service will take place at Acacia Cemetery, 2151 Pilot Knob Rd, Mendota Heights, MN following the service.
