Alise Elaine "Lisa" (Piper) Cumpston
Aug. 24, 1947 - Jan. 17, 2023
Died at age 75 after fighting cancer for two years.
Lisa was born on Aug. 24, 1947, to Kenneth and Frances Piper in Des Moines, Iowa, who went on to have her sister, Shirley (John) Rosebery. After graduating from West Des Moines Valley High School in 1965, she married Larry Cumpston on Sept. 17, 1966, eventually settled in South St. Paul, Minn., and had three children: Kirk (Yolanda) Cumpston, of Richmond, Virginia, Krissa (Scott) Holzinger of Saint Paul, and Annamarie (Jason) Adkins of Saint Paul; and seven grandchildren: Juan, Erik and Jaden Cumpston; and Dominic, Xavier, Mary Frances and Josephine Adkins.
She took classes at the University of Minnesota for interior design, and worked as an administrative assistant to former Governor Harold LeVander and future Justice Paul Anderson at the LeVander law firm.
With her husband, Lisa was a co-founder and partner of the accounting firm Lawrence Cumpston & Associates in 1983, and later started her own company, iComp Payroll & Human Resource Services, in 1997. She retired from both companies in early 2020.
Lisa was very active in her church for more than 50 years, serving as deacon, Session member, Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, camp counselor, singer in the choir, ringer in the bell choir, and volunteer for innumerable activities, committees and events.
She will always be remembered for her big heart, love of her family, incredible generosity, creative decorating for holidays, May Day baskets, and connection with animals and God’s creation
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Frances Piper; her in-laws, William and Pauline Cumpston; and her sister-in-law, Diana Cumpston. Also, she is survived by her sister and many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at 2pm Thursday, Feb. 2, at First Presbyterian Church in South St. Paul. Private burial at Riverview Cemetery in Saint Paul. Livestream link to the service will be available on this page by 1/31/23.
