Alton was married to the love of his life, Lena L. Pollard, for twenty-nine years.
In 1955, they moved to St. Paul, MN. From their union, four children were born: Charles Michael (deceased), Alton III, Donna Marie, and Kevin Donnell (deceased).
He was employed at American Hoist and Derrick where he would proudly serve as Shop Steward and later become President of the local chapter of International Molders and Allied Workers Union, AFL-CIO. He was further employed for a number of years by St. Paul & Suburban Bus Company, later acquired by Ryder Student Transportation Services. He was honored as location driver of the year in 1992-93 and again in 2004-2005.
Alton was a devout Christian and longtime member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where he served in a number of capacities including as a member of the Board of Trustees and Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was an avid reader of the Bible and loved gospel music, especially Mahalia Jackson and James Cleveland. He dispensed pearls of biblical wisdom to family and church members alike, irrespective of age.
He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and baseball. Jackie Robinson, Joe Louis, and Muhammad Ali were among his favorite athletes. He loved God and family above all else.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lloyd, Ernestine, Kay Francis, Annette, Mary Irene, Louis, William "Sonny," Paul, Mark, and Doris.
Alton is survived by his son Alton B. Pollard, III (Jessica) and daughter Donna M. Garcia (Mitchell); daughter-in-law Sylvia N. Pollard (Kevin); six grandchildren, Alton IV, Thomas (T.C.), Asha, Melissa, Lena, and Kevin; five great grandchildren, Mila, Isabella, Alton V, Jade, and Miles; siblings Julia, Leroy, James, Janie, and Gail; and a host of family and friends.
Services will be held at Simple Traditions by Bradshaw, 488 Humboldt Ave., Saint Paul, MN 55107, on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 12pm. Visitation one hour prior. Repast to follow burial at TST Catering (1494 Dale St N, St Paul).
