Age 90, of West St. Paul

Died May 29, 2018. Preceded in death by husband of 44 years, Alf Hanson; parents, Oscar and Ruth Johnson; siblings, Helen Linder and Gerald Johnson. Survived by children, Jeff (Laura), Bill (Susan) and Mark (Lydia); 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.
Bernice grew up in the small farming community of Bricelyn, MN, where she was valedictorian of her high school class.
She attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter and the MN School of Business.
Bernice was universally liked, with a ready smile and an offer to help. Donated many hours of service at Gloria Dei. Bernice treasured her many friends and the wonderful memories from St. Paul Avenue. Loved going to her son Mark's restaurant for great food and drink. Diagnosed with hydrocephalus in 2002, but maintained a remarkable attitude during her long debilitating illness.
Special thanks to the staff at Southview Acres for the care and affection they have shown Bernice since 2007.
Service Thursday, June 7th at 10:30 AM with a visitation starting at 9 AM at GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 Snelling Ave S, St. Paul.
Lunch to follow the service with a private burial at Fort Snelling next to her beloved husband Alf.
