Betty Jane (Tolen) Janecky

Betty Jane Tolen was born in Stillwater MN on May 27, 1920, and passed away in St. Paul MN on October 30, 2021. Predeceased by George, her loving husband of 47 years, and her beloved daughter Jane Elizabeth. Betty was a force to be reckoned with. A lifelong Episcopalian. First female president of the student body at Stillwater High School. Proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she met George Janecky in Spanish class. World War II veteran where she served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy. Girl Scout leader extraordinaire. Board member at Episcopal Homes for many years, including serving as Chair in 2000-2001.

Betty will be missed by all who called her friend. She was fiercely loyal, tough, and funny. In her long life she saw all the beauty and heartaches the world has to offer but never lost her spirit. She was a warm sun for 101 years. Her parties were legendary and her friends were legion.

Survived by daughters Helen (Maple Grove MN), Martha (Davie FL), and  Candace (Randolph, Princeton MN), and son Nick (Diane, Denver CO and Minneapolis MN). Also survived by five grandchildren, Lauren (Anthony, Wyoming MN), Altan (Davie FL), Bertan (Adana, Turkey), Jeyda (Zackery, Oakland, CA), and Genevieve (Elk River, MN); three great-grandsons (Lukas, Jackson, and Damon); cousins Louis and Cherie; and son-in-law Ted.

Special thanks to staff in May House at the Episcopal Church Home for six years of tender loving care.

Family and friends are invited to a service followed by a celebration to be held at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 901 Portland Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104, on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 4:00 PM, the day of Betty’s 102nd circle around the sun.
