Calvin Sabin

d. June 11, 2021

On Friday June 11, 2021, Calvin “Cal” Leroy Sabin, loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away peacefully at the age of 82 with his family by his side.

Calvin was born to the late Elmer and Bertha Sabin on March 25, 1939 in Augusta, WI. Calvin grew up spending most of his time with his step-father, Herbert “Red” Stol and his grandparents, Irvin and Mary Hamilton. Calvin was the third oldest out of his eight siblings. Calvin attended Augusta High School where he participated in numerous extra-curricular activities including; FFA, industrial arts club, letterman’s club, football, basketball, track, and class play. Upon graduation in 1959, Calvin noted, “I may be a country gentleman, but someday I’ll be a women’s companion.” Calvin fulfilled this dream following graduation when he moved to St. Paul, MN and met his one true love, Jane Kubicek. Calvin and Jane married on June 3, 1961 and proceeded to raise their three children; Glen, Kellie, and Greg. Calvin spent most of his career working as a meat cutter at Kings Foods and Iowa Pork, and eventually Calvin retired from a position at The Goodwill.

Calvin was a dedicated husband of 60 years and a loving father, grandfather, and uncle. Calvin was no stranger to hard work and there was never a task too big for him to accomplish. Calvin was a family man and enjoyed putting on big get-togethers with Jane for family and friends on special occasions and holidays. Calvin, Jane, their family, and friends spent 50 plus years camping and fishing at Oak Lake Campground in Kerrick, MN where so many memories were made. Calvin was a strong, loving, and quick-witted man with a contagious smile who always made time for his family. Although Calvin has left this world, his spirit will live on forever in the many memories kept close in our hearts.

Calvin is survived by his beautiful wife, Jane; their three children, Glen, Kellie (Wayne Lindekugel), Greg (Jennifer); four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Greg Robinson; sisters-in-law, Joan (Jerry) Zigan and Diane (Phil) Vogel; as well as many nieces and nephews. Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bertha Sabin and Herbert “Red” Stol; sisters, Mary and Betty; brothers, Norman, Dean, Dale, and Lawrence; and one sister and brother-in-law, Madonna (Clarence) Hamilton.
