Catherine Teresa Matthews, MSN, APRN, CNP of St. Paul, MN died surrounded by cherished friends and family members on July 23, 2022. She lived life as God’s servant through her vocation as a nurse practitioner and participated in numerous professional, community, and spiritual organizations, including St. Peter's Catholic Church. Her missionary heart lead to world-wide travel with UNHCR. Including 2 years in East Africa, where her medical skills were only surpassed by her compassion and generosity of her spirit.
An active member of various Roman Catholic faith communities in St Paul, she deepened her spiritual life through the Sacraments and Eucharistic Adoration. Her Christian faith supported her keen sense of social justice, political activism and aversion to social exclusion, including injustice and racism.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Michaela Grace, St. Paul; mother, MaryAnn Matthews, Waukesha, WI; brother Bud (Sandy) Matthews, Brookfield, WI; brother John (Tami) of Livermore, CA; Fr. Bernard McCay-Morrissey OP, Dublin Ireland; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; valued colleagues and friends; and her beloved chihtzu, Abigail. She is preceded in death by her father, James Matthews.
Among valued friends, Catherine counted Fr Stephen SJ, Fr Joe, and Spiritual Directors of Madonna House, Combermere, Ontario.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 5, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1405 Sibley Memorial Highway, Mendota Heights, MN 55150.
Life Source conducted Cathrine’s Walk of Honor and organ donation. Memorial donations to Madonna House (madonnahouse.org) are preferred.
