Dean Stiller

Dean Paul Stiller, 69, of New Brighton, MN passed away on January 31st, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Dean was born March 22nd, 1955 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Claude and Ruth (Siers) Stiller. Dean graduated from Wayzata High School in 1973, then went on to St. John's University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. After college, Dean set out to be a math teacher and took a job in Laverne, MN. He realized quickly that it was not a good fit for him and he set out to become an actuary, which became his lifelong career. Dean officially became an actuary in 1989 and became a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and later earned the title of Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1995. Dean worked for a number of insurance companies throughout the years eventually taking a position as lead actuary at Sons of Norway in Minneapolis where he served for more than 20 years. After his official retirement, Dean remained active with Sons of Norway as a consultant and as a member of the International Board of Directors.

Dean was well known as the 'rock' and the big brother in our family. He was selfless in his generosity and support to all of his family members. It's an adage in our family that "everyone lives with Dean at some point" as he has opened his home to almost all his younger siblings, and even a niece, when they needed a place to stay and a helping hand.

Dean enjoyed spending his downtime at the family cabin that he took over ownership of and dedicated countless time and resources to ensuring that it has remained the generational gathering place that Claude and Ruth created. Dean definitely enjoyed his quiet time at the cabin but he always welcomed, or at least tolerated, all the people, pets and chaos that came with all of us being together.

Dean set an example for us about how to always be there and be willing to do what it takes to support those you love. He will be so greatly missed by us all.

Remaining to cherish Dean's memory are mother, Ruth Stiller (Siers), sisters, Melinda, Barbara (Guy), Kate (Ron); brother Russ (Rebecca); nieces, Loucinda (Sven), Amanda (Josh), Kathryn, Kirsten,  Anna and Amelia; nephews, Rory and Theo; great-nieces, Elyzabeth and Rebekah; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Preceding Dean in death are his father Claude; sister, Tammy and nephew, Virgil.
