Elizabeth Ann Nelson (Hjortsberg)
Age 77 of St. Louis Park, went home to the Lord on March 4, 2020. Elizabeth was born to parents Frederick and Lenore Hjortsberg on March 4, 1943 in St. Paul, MN. She grew up in Maumee, OH as the oldest of seven children. After graduation from high school, she moved back to St. Paul, MN and lived with her grandmother, Ruth Saether, working for St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company. In 1963, she married Delroy Kurtzweg and lived outside of Arlington, MN for 22 years raising six children. She married Steve Nelson in 1986 and lived in and around the Twin Cities area until her passing. Steve Nelson stood by her during their marriage and visited her every day while she lived at Sholom. Elizabeth loved swimming in Lake Marion, the St. Croix River and the ocean and enjoyed traveling. She was an excellent Scrabble player, spoke a little French and had a great sense of humor with tactful zingers.
Elizabeth was artistic and cultural on many levels, from drawing to sewing. Her fluffy white frosting made an appearance on every birthday cake. She did International Folk Dance Twin Cities chapter. Elizabeth loved music and two of her favorite artists were Eddie Rabbit and Elvis. She enjoyed listening to Matt, Evan and Amaya sing and play musical instruments. Elizabeth took her children to museums and many times to Como Park Conservatory and Como Park Zoo or any other small town social event such as bed races.
She was a hard worker and was not afraid to get her hands dirty, whether growing a garden or working around the farm. Elizabeth enjoyed caring for her children and grandchildren, helping any way she could. Elizabeth was a nice conversation partner and a good person to be around. She always did what was best for other people and was a selfless example of good in this world.
Preceded in death by parents and sister Janet. Elizabeth will be dearly missed by her husband Steve; children Michael (Tracy), Daniel, Steven (Kelly), Cindy (Matthew), Nicholas (Michelle), Gail (Jason); grandchildren Courtney, Ashley, Nathaniel (Haylee), Jessica, Takkia, Tamaray, Tristen, Amaya, Evan, Christian, Sawyer; great-grandchildren Ian and Carter; and siblings Karen, James, Thomas, Donna, and Frederick Jr. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Service Monday, March 9 at 11:00 AM with visitation the hour prior, at Simple Traditions by Bradshaw, 671 Snelling Ave S., St. Paul. Interment Oakland Cemetery.
