Age 82 of St. Paul
Passed away peacefully on October 3, 2014.
Preceded in death by husband Merle, daughter Karen, parents Hans & Astrid Gammel, brothers Harold & Warren and sister Lillian Ullmann. Survived by daughter, Julie Johnson (Daniel Pruitt); son, Gary Johnson (Janet); grandchildren, Nick & Rachel; many nieces and nephews. Ellen graduated from Murray High School where she was a clarinet player in the school band. She graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education from Hamline University. Ellen was a proud past president of St. Paul AAUW, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and former Past Honored Queen of Job's Daughters. She was a member of the Danish American Center, a ham radio operator, and former Camp Fire Girl member/leader. Ellen was an astute/avid bridge player in 4 groups, gardener, camper, loved to travel to foreign countries as well as visit family in Nebraska. Dogs and all animals loved her. She loved bluegrass, good coffee and was a supporter of women's rights. Ellen was a strong, courageous, independent, warm lady who was well known for her positive outlook on life and her friendliness to others. Visitation Friday, October 17th from 5-8PM with an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:30PM at Simple Traditions by Bradshaw, 671 South Snelling Avenue. Memorial Service Saturday, October 18th at 11AM with visitation one hour prior at Macalester Plymouth United Church, 1658 Lincoln Avenue. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society, Macalester Plymouth United Church, and St. Paul AAUW.
