Eric Charles Stadler

Eric Charles Stadler (54) of Maplewood, Minnesota passed away peacefully in his home the evening of December 24, 2024, after a long period of declining health. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Christine Stadler. Eric is survived by his sister, Brooke Stadler; sister-in law, Mona Robbins; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; old friends and new.

During his life, Eric endured many challenges, enjoyed many triumphs, and touched many lives. As a toddler, Eric lived in Latiano, Italy with his parents while his dad was stationed nearby serving in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning home to Faribault, Minnesota, Eric was an active little boy who had a passion for music - trying his hand at guitar, banjo, and accordion. He was a headstrong yet sweet, tender-hearted child who loved his family and friends.

When Eric was 5 years old, he was struck by a car while playing in a local park. The accident left him with a traumatic brain injury that changed him forever. Non-verbal and non-ambulatory, Eric required total care. After careful consideration, his parents made the heart-wrenching decision to place Eric at a small group home in West St. Paul, Minnesota called Dakota’s Children. This home was a godsend to Eric and his family. It was quaint, the staff were loving professionals, and family involvement was welcomed and encouraged.

Eric attended Bridgeview School in St. Paul, Minnesota until 1991. After that, he participated in day programming at Midwest Special Services in Shoreview, Minnesota until shortly before his passing. By 2000, Dakota’s Children had grown into Dakota Communities and Eric moved into a new house in Maplewood, Minnesota built especially for him and 5 housemates. Dakota Communities continued to grow and is now Living Well Disability Services, which still offers person-centered services, compassionate caregivers, and various opportunities for residents to truly live well.

Due to the support and services provided by these organizations, Eric lived his life to its fullest potential. From regular community outings like shopping and going out to eat to spectacular adventures like swimming, boating, horseback riding, and even dogsledding, Eric did many things once thought impossible. A quiet observer whose smile could light up a room, Eric touched many lives. He was deeply loved, and his gentle presence will be missed by many.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 4 th at Eric’s home, 2355 Maryland Avenue East, Maplewood, MN from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

A special thank you to the dedicated staff at Living Well Disability Services who cared for Eric for nearly 50 years. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to Living Well Disability Services: https://livingwell.org/donate/#donatenow
