Schaller, Florence C.
Florence Schaller passed away peacefully early in the morning on October 25, 2018. She was survived by daughters, Cathy Henderson, Betsy Schaller, and Barb Wiggins (Mark); grandsons, Matt and Michael Henderson and Benjamin and Jacob Wiggins; many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Sam; brother, Jim Carr; and sister, Dorothy Johnston.
Florence was born on June 9, 1930 and raised in Janesville, Wisconsin. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1948 and remained friends with 3 classmates for life. She attended many class reunions - most recently their 65th! Florence graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1952 and loved Badgers football. After graduating, she taught high school history and economics in Davenport, Iowa and Wausau, Wisconsin. Florence met her husband, Sam, on a cruise to Europe - a college graduation gift for each. They were married in 1956. Later, Florence worked for many years at Shapira's Gifts/Highland Drug Center in Highland Village.
Besides raising their 3 daughters, Florence was generous and active in her community, and loved playing bridge in several bridge groups. Florence enjoyed watching her grandsons play football and compete in robotics. She was so proud of them!
Florence loved to travel. Some of the places she visited were: Western Europe, Scotland, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Bahamas, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, Hawaii, New Orleans, Pasadena (to watch the Badgers play in the Rose Bowl!), Yellowstone National Park, and a tour of some of the National Parks of the southwest United States. But her favorite vacations were the annual trips up to the "green cabin" at Northern Pine Lodge near Park Rapids with her daughters and their families for the last 25 years. There, Florence went water skiing into her 70's, rode a tube in her 80's, walked across the Mississippi River at Itasca State Park, and enjoyed clobbering everyone in Phase 10 (a card game).
Recently, Florence lived at Episcopal Church Homes and was as active as she could be at the Midway Y. Her favorite Y activities were the bike rides in the rear seat of a recumbent tandem bicycle and breakfasts with her Y friends.
Florence loved her family and friends. We will miss her dearly and will keep her loving memory alive with us. We are comforted that she lived a long, happy life, is now at peace and has been reunited with our dad, Sam, and many other relatives in the loving arms of our Lord.
