Ginger Brown

December 20, 1939 — July 30, 2024

Ginger C. Brown, Age 84, of Saint Paul, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Brown Jr.; parents, Lillie and Oliver Cooksey; brother, Oliver Cooksey Jr.; and granddaughter, Ashli Johnson. She is survived by her children Angelle (Larry) Wimes, Robert Brown III, Ethel Brown, Ginnie Williams (Lawerence), Gabrielle (Kennith) Brown Kreeger, Joseph Brown (LaShonda), Lillie Brown, Arthur Brown, Scott Brown, and Jennifer (Hubert) McPherson. She had 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of family and friends.

Ginger, the oldest of four children, was born and raised in New Orleans. As a military child, she experienced the world. Her favorite place was Japan. Ginger's parents moved the family to Minnesota in the 50s, where she met and married the only love of her life Robert Brown. They made Saint Paul, Minnesota, their forever home creating ten children.

Ginger graduated from college with a degree in sewing and was a talented seamstress. She crocheted and made clothes, porcelain dolls, blankets, quilts, and more. Ginger worked closely with WCCO News as a freelance photographer. She was a strong community activist who pushed for safer streets, more education, Early Childhood education, sign language, reading programs, and sports equality. She was a board member for many years for community organizations such as Ramsey Action Programs TAAC A, C, and D, Lex-Ham Community Council, Weed and Seed, and Acorn.

Ginger loved being outdoors, working in her beautiful garden, and taking family trips to the zoo and Valleyfair. She was heavily involved in her younger grandkids' education, attending ECFE, open houses, PTA meetings, and more. Ginger will be missed by many as she made her presence known everywhere she went. Ginger was a true pillar of the community.
