James (Jim) William Parker, age 84, passed away April 20, 2022 in St Paul, MN, leaving behind family and friends who will miss him.
Born in Rapid City, SD, Jim spent most of his life in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High School, class of 1955. Through the Army ROTC program, he attended South Dakota State University, class of 1959. After college, the Army sent him to Germany, where he completed his commitment and met his wife Sue, who is originally from Cobleskill, NY. After the Army, Jim & Sue returned to Sioux Falls and raised their family.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors and being active—hunting, fishing, playing old timers hockey, volunteering for youth hockey, the occasional round of golf—and he always had a project going on, or two….. Jim loved that his children and grandchildren shared these interests with him, some with more enthusiasm than others!
Jim is preceded in death by his father, William Parker, mother, Esther Parker, and brother, Robert Parker. He is survived by his wife Sue Rich Parker, daughters Joan Parker (Mike Makely) of Gardiner, NY, Jan Parker (Marcel Medved) of Crested Butte, CO, and son Jim Parker (Anne Parker) of St Paul, and grandchildren Audrey, Noel & Anson. The fish are breathing a sigh of relief, and the canines join the family in mourning his passing.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on June 24,2022, 12:00 PM at Episcopal Home’s Coventry Chapel, 1840 University Ave West, St Paul, MN.
The Family wants to send a huge “thank you!” to Episcopal Church Homes and Our Lady of Peace Hospice for their wonderful and thoughtful care. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Jim’s favorite charities, The Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum (https://www.maryjowegnerarboretum.com) and Sioux Falls Izaak Walton League (https://www.sfikes.org).
