Joseph Weiss, Jr., age 80, passed away December 11, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Preceded in death by parents, Eveleen Dittmer Weiss and Joseph Weiss, Sr.; sisters, Lillian James, Elsie Goatley, and Joanne Hoefer.
A school athlete, Joe graduated in 1957 from Ford High School in Ford, Kansas. He joined the US Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. After his active military service, he earned a BS at Northrop Institute of Technology. He then returned to the skies as a civilian, but in 1976, survived an accident that ended his flying career. Joe spent some years in Atlanta, Denver, and his hometown of Hutchinson, Kansas, before moving south to Ft. Lauderdale. In his later years, he could be found reading at the library, cheering on the Denver Broncos, and drinking tea at Starbucks.
He is survived by his two daughters, Natalie (Bennett) Jackson and Karla (Michael) Lombardi, and three grandchildren, Nora, Alexander, and Leonardo. A proud Marine veteran, Joe will be buried at sea by the US Navy.
