Louie passed peacefully on February 18th, 2022 with family and friends at his side. He is proceeded in death by parents Louis and Violet Monchamp; son Jordan Monchamp; and sister Wanda Weyaus. He is survived by nephew Darrell Weyaus Sr (Roberta); Cousin Don Monchamp (Kathy); Cousin Glenda Fryer; dear friends Thet Clay and Tamla Say their children Thay Ler, Nally and Edmund and many other friends and relatives.
Born in Red Lake, MN, Louie spent most of his younger years in Michigan City, Indiana until he joined the Army in 1961. He proudly served 3 years as an Infantry Specialist where he was awarded decorations for his expertise in rifle and 3.5 RL. Upon his honorable discharge in 1964, Louie moved to St. Paul, MN and eventually called it home.
Louie was a man of many skills. He earned himself many certificates including Welding, construction, and electrical just to name a few. He loved to fix and build things when he could, usually when it involved helping others. Louie had a strong Christian belief and belonged to many religious organizations to which he donated regularly. He was a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians and a member of Veteran of Foreign War.
Louie recently retired from the job he loved as a bus driver at Head Start in Ramsey County. He loved and cared for the children and families and friends he met during his 22 years at Head Start. It wasn’t uncommon for him to get off the bus to shovel a path so the children and parents would not have to trudge through snow and muck during the winter months.
Grandpa Louie will be missed greatly by all of those he touched.
Rest in peace Louie. God Speed!
