Lupe Mary (Vasquez) Rivera

Lupe Mary Rivera (Vasquez) 76 years old of St. Paul, MN born October 6, 1944 passed away on December 21, 2020.  Preceded in death by parents Maria and Charles Vasquez; siblings Donald (Mary) Vasquez, Frances Rivet, Carlos (Nancy) Vasquez, and Mary Vasquez.  Survived by husband Ramon Rivera; siblings Serapio (Frances) Vasquez, Carmen (Mauro) Juarez, and Joseph (Agnes) Vasquez; children JoJo (Amani) Verdeja, PattiJo (Tim) Verdeja, Christopher (Kalae) Verdeja, Gregory (Tonantzin) Verdeja, and Evangelina Verdeja, 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

She was a loving wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and second-mom to many.  She was a life-time resident of St. Paul’s West Side community, life-time parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and graduate of Humboldt Senior High School.  We loved our mother dearly and she is deeply missed.  She was loved by all who knew her. Lupe was selfless, supportive, kind, caring, strong and independent.  She often helped others even when it seemed she had nothing to give.  She took in many friends and family members over the years offering a safe space, place to sleep and a home cooked meal. She is widely known for being an amazing cook throughout the family. Lupe was the heart and backbone of our family.   She was a single parent of 5 children and guardian of a sister with different abilities. She taught her children to always be grateful for what you have and to help others whenever possible.  You would often find her watching her grandchildren.  Taking care of family was a value she cherished and lived daily.  She retired from Cardiac Pacemaker, Inc and Surgical Technologies, Inc.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, April 30 at 11:00 AM at OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CHURCH (401 Concord Street) with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Visitation Thursday, April 29 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at SIMPLE TRADITIONS by BRADSHAW (488 Humboldt Avenue). Interment Riverview Cemetery.
