Maria Belmares

Maria Antonia Belmares, born on April 23, 1935, in Elmendorf, Texas, passed away on October 19, 2024, in West Saint Paul, Minnesota. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her.

Maria, affectionately known as "Sis," dedicated her life to her family and career as a head cook, where her culinary skills shone through her favorite dishes, which were always the highlight of family gatherings. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren-Clarissa, Dominic, Gabriel, Erin, Owen, Lucy, and Elyana-ensuring that each moment was filled with love and laughter.

Her passions included cooking and sewing, activities that brought her immense joy. Maria was also a fan of music, finding happiness in the sounds of Elvis, Barbra Streisand, and Vincente Fernandez. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, including "Unsolved Mysteries," "In the Heat of the Night," and John Wayne westerns, while her love for horse racing was a cherished pastime.

Maria was married to Juan Pablo Belmares, and together they created a loving home filled with warmth and support. She is survived by her sons, David, Joel (Claire), and Andrew, as well as her brothers Charlie (Helen), John (Andrea), and Hank (Diane). Maria's caring nature allowed her to impact many lives, as she was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer support to those in need.

Her favorite place in the world was the farm she grew up on in Texas, but wherever her family was, that was home to her. Maria's legacy of kindness and selflessness will be fondly remembered by her family and friends, who will carry her spirit in their hearts forever.

Funeral Mass held at 11AM, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (401 Concord St., St. Paul). Visitation one hour prior. Reception follows service. Private Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
