Marilyn passed away peacefully at the Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, Minnesota at the age of 88. Marilyn was a friend to all. She naturally sought joy, kindness, and companionship and had so many good people in her life. Marilyn was a presence for all that knew and embraced her - friends, family, and community. She was always on the go and involved in anything and everything. She was an enthusiastic volunteer throughout her life. She loved collecting photos of friends, and she especially loved photos of babies. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, photo albums, biking, walking, and most especially the Twins. Marilyn also loved cats and dogs, and with enthusiasm would ensure that the family pets were blessed at church on St Francis Day. Marilyn treasured her church, Gloria Dei, of which she was an active member since 1972. She enthusiastically carried the cross at service and witnessed countless baptisms. She had the pleasure of being a member of two choirs. Music brought her much joy, and belonging to the church community was so important. She knew she was loved at Gloria Dei. Marilyn was a loyal employee of Lee's Village Inn for 35 years, and in later years, worked a job she especially enjoyed - at a day care with babies and young children. With this work she was able to do one of her favorite activities - holding and rocking babies.
Marilyn attended many schools and graduated from Johnson High School. She lived with her brother (Ken Dayton) and sister-in-law (Mary Dayton) for 34 years and was a beloved member of their family. She moved to Episcopal Homes in 2010. Trips to church and the Twins games via the bus and light rail were a common event. Marilyn was determined to take in the joys of life and was always busy and on the go. That was Marilyn. Marilyn transitioned to Episcopal Church Home long term care in 2021 after a fall. She never let this slow her down. Marilyn loved her community, always checking things out. At the Home, you could find her "padding" around on her wheelchair and was always present at all planned activities.
Preceded in death by her parents Charlotte and Floyd Dayton, and nephew Robert Dayton. Survived by her brother Ken Dayton, sister-in-law Mary Dayton, niece Susan Dayton, and many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She was loved by all. The family is forever grateful to Gloria Dei, Episcopal Church Home, and Beyond Hospice for their loving kindness.
