Passed unexpectedly in his sleep, way too soon. Mat will be greatly missed by his wife Rachel, his children, Madisen, Tristen, Jamisen and Ashlen, his parents Thomas and Valeree, brother Reid (Jessica), Grandmother Maizie, Uncles: Randall (Linda), Jeffery (Michelle), Tyrone (Kristy), Troy, Aunt's Sheryle (Michael), Judy (Bruce) and Suzette. Rachel's parents Bill and Pat Long, Brother Michael (Wiesla), niece Emma, cousins and many relatives. Mat was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles R. Lindsay, Walter and Dorothy Perlick, Uncle Thor, Aunt Debra, and Rachel's grandmother Mary Ann Edstrom.
Mathew was born in Onamia, Minnesota where he spent his childhood before moving to
Billings, Montana with his family. He returned to Minnesota and graduated from Fridley
Senior High School in 2000, where he lettered in Ice Hockey. After graduating from high school Mathew continued to participate in men's hockey, however he found a new passion which he became deeply involved in which was Softball. He played on a number of men's and co-ed softball teams over the years and became friends with many players and also sponsored a number of teams during tournaments. He was currently coaching his two daughters (Jami and Ashlen) and all the other girls on the teams for the Richfield girl's 10U/12U/14U fast pitch program which kept him very busy, but he loved doing
it. Mathew loved sports, he rooted for the Minnesota Vikings, Twins and was an avid Nascar fan and was a die-hard Kyle Busch supporter. He wore the #18 proudly every chance he could.
He started working for Yardscapes, Inc during the summers in High School and learned about landscaping and construction which he became very proficient at. He left Yardscapes to start his own business and was Owner of XL Construction, LLC which he loved doing, working on new construction, home remodels, window/siding replacements, bathrooms, installing saunas and hot tubs, along with roof replacements, exterior water features and landscaping, and seasonal snow removal.
Mathew was a volunteer Fireman for the Bloomington Fire Department, Fire Station #3 for about 4 years which he enjoyed immensely. Again he met and maintained many friendships with the local firefighters and looked forward to playing in the annual Fireman's Softball Tournament each year where he had his own Co-ed team.
On September 22, 2007 he married Rachel, raised four beautiful children together, and had a menagerie of pets, Bobbi and Kitty (who have passed) currently, Kylie (his mini aussie), barn cats Tinkerbell and Rosie which he rescued from a job site, Kiwi and his latest Remi, (who was his favorite) who they spotted in a pet store, crying, looking lonely and forlorn, and he had to bring home because he felt so bad.
Mathew had many friends and relatives who he cared deeply about, he would help anyone in need, offered assistance if he could help, enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by all.
