Goodman, Nancy Lynn
August 31, 1956 - September 20, 2015
Died suddenly in MN on her way back to her Milwaukee home from a wonderful trip on the Mississippi River. Born to Don and Beverly Goodman in Johnson City, NY, she graduated from high school in Hightstown, NJ, earned a BA from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and received a Masters from Aurora University. She taught English as a Second Language in Franklin, WI for fifteen years after holding positions at UWGB, the White Gull Inn (Fish Creek, WI), a language school in Barcelona, Spain, and Alverno College (Milwaukee). She was a contributor in poetry at the Breadloaf Writers' Conference (VT) and received a grant for short fiction from the WI Arts Board. She published two books of short stories --Nancy Goodman Driver, Beverly Arlene: Saving the Stories (2006) and Coast to Coast: Arrivals and Departures (2008)--that were notable for their insight and humor. In recent years, she was an active member of the AA and Al-Anon communities and River West Elders in Milwaukee. Nancy was much-loved. She will be missed by many friends and students from each phase of her rich and colorful life, and by her extended family. She is survived by three brothers-Steven, Mark and K.C. Goodman, from MD, NJ and PA--and their families; by her former husband Danny (Clyde) Driver; by her maternal uncle and aunt, Charles and Estella Lauter from WI, and her cousins Kristin and Nick Lauter in CA and IA. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced. Contributions in her memory may be sent to the Milwaukee Alano Foundation, 1521 N. Prospect St., Milwaukee, WI 53202.
