Peggy Chase

d. January 7, 2016

Chase, Margaret (Peggy) Scott Age 98, of St. Paul, passed away January 7, 2016. She was preceded in death by daughter Kathryn Chase (1966), Husband, Guy Chase (2003), and daughters-in-law Diana (2008) and Annie (2010). Also preceded in death by siblings Kathryn Stotts Reggiani, Dick Scott and Bob Scott. Survived by son Guy Jr., his sons Guy III and Alexander; son Scott, companion Marcy, and son Jesse; son Stephen, his wife Kathy and their children Jessica, Alicia and Tyler; son Robert, his wife Lori, and their children Kathryn and Brian; and son William and his wife Gina. She is survived by numerous, dearly-loved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was also preceded in death, and survived by, countless people whom she made feel as though they were family. Peggy Scott was born in Minneapolis and went to primary and secondary school near Minnehaha Park. In primary school she formed friendships that were maintained throughout their lifetimes in a series of 198 issues of "The Radiant Robin", a quarterly compilation of their correspondences, begun during World War II by Peggy and Guy. Peggy was very active and supportive in her community. Devoted to truth and justice she joined in word and deed with others who were ahead of their times in issues such as women's rights, racial equality, religious freedom, and sexual preference. She welcomed everyone into her home and all who knew her felt that they were at home in her company. Peggy also had a fun-loving side. She loved sports and in her youth, donned speed skates for the rink and skis for the Minnehaha ski jump. Peggy met Guy while swimming and sailing at Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. She played tennis until she was 89. Peggy and Guy were championship ballroom dancers and after Guy's death she returned to recreational and competitive ballroom dancing until she was 88 years old. Peggy's deep religious conviction made her unafraid of old age. Of her own volition, she gave up driving when that was appropriate and moved into assisted living when that was advisable, giving up the Chase family home at 548 South Cretin Avenue in St. Paul. She spent her final days in Friendship Home where her needs and comfort were well attended to and augmented by visiting family and friends as well as music therapy. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 12th at 2 pm at The Lakewood Memorial Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave S, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to the Alzheimer's Association or Planned Parenthood of MN.
