Preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Alta Johnson. Survived by sister, Kathryn (Bruce) Flatin of VA; niece, Dr. Heidi Flatin and nephews, Dr. Daniel, Mark, and Paul Flatin and their families. Richard graduated from Central High School in 1955. He attended the University of MN where he received an A.A. degree in 1965. Richard attended the University of North Dakota where he received his B.S. degree in Education in 1969. He was also a seminary student at the Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul. Richard was a substitute teacher in the primary grades. He was a member of the University of Minnesota Glee Club, the Gloria Dei Choir, the Midway Y Men's Club and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He was an accomplished soloist, artist and an avid bowler. Richard was a public speaker in the area of disability achievements. His primary disability was cerebral palsy and he overcame many personal barriers with determination, optimism and hard work. Service Monday, November 3rd at 10:30AM at GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 South Snelling Avenue. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials preferred to VSA Minnesota and the Highland Friendship Club of St Paul.
