Urueta del Carpio, Romana Marina
Of St Paul. The daughter of Modesto and Juanita Carpio de Urueta was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, South America and passed away October 19, 2015 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Romana attended the Colegio Americano in Barranquilla and was baptized in the Tabita Presbyterian Church. She graduated from the University of Colombia School of Nursing, Bogota. On a scholarship from the Rockefeller Foundation, she attended the University of Toronto in Canada. After two years there, she returned to Bogota to teach at the school of nursing. Romana moved to the United States to further her studies at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. She then became a clinical instructor at Children's Hospital in St. Paul. Romana received her masters degree in Public Health Nursing from UCLA, CA and subsequently returned to Minnesota to teach at the University of Minnesota. She retired professor emeritus in 2006. Romana faithfully attended the House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, where she was a deacon, elder, and served on various committees. Romana was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Rafael and Miguel, and sisters, Bernardita Urueta de Fals, and Saturia Urueta de Fernandez. She is survived by her sister, Maria (John) Wells, many nieces and nephews. Memorial service Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at HOUSE OF HOPE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 797 Summit Avenue, St. Paul. Family will receive friends following the service at the church.
