Sara Amend (Sally)
Long active in hospital organizations died October 29, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was 95.
A native of Lewistown, Pennsylvania she graduated from Lewistown High School in 1941 and from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia School of Nursing in 1944. She served as a Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps with the Army of Occupation in Austria immediately following World War II.
While she and Don raised their four children, she was a member of the Junior League. After her children were in high school she worked in the operating room of Midway Hospital for 10 years. While living in Stillwater, she owned and operated The 1876 Shop selling needlepoint and knitting for 5 years. At the time she was President of the Lakeview Hospital Auxiliary. Subsequently she served on the auxiliary boards of United Hospital and Children's Hospital and belonged to the Samplers and Village Guilds of the Children's Hospital Association. She led the House of Hope Presbyterian Church Needlework Guild that needlepointed multiple cushions used in the chancel. Though legally blind since 1976 she remained active enjoying golf, travel and her family and friends.
Preceded by her loving husband Donald B Fulton, survivors include three daughters, Nancy L. Fulton and Deborah A. Fulton of West Saint Paul, Rebecca F. Barnett (Scott) of Lombard IL, one son Alfred M. Fulton III (Andy) (Gail) of Mahtomedi, five grandchildren Brett, Katharine and Kelsey Barnett and Erin and Alex (Rachel) Fulton and sister-in-law Martha J. Fulton of San Jose CA.
A memorial service will be held Monday November 21 at 10:30 AM at House of Hope Presbyterian Church, 797 Summit Ave Saint Paul. A gathering of family and friends will occur following the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the Communication Center State Services for the Blind (St. Paul Foundation), House of Hope Presbyterian Church (The BASH! Mission Outreach) or donor's choice.
