Shirley Baugher Colmenares, Ph.D., of St. Paul, MN, age 75, died on July 17, 2024. Born at home, on the farm near Galt, MO. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 33 years, Felix Enrique Colmenares Mayoral and their four-legged babies, Sasha, Max, and Ramoncito. Shirley is survived by her brother, Larry (Linda) Baugher of Trenton, MO; sister, Sharon Baugher Nickoll of Galt, MO; brother-in-law, Carlos Mayoral of Brainerd, MN; and sister-in-law, Lila Blanca Colmenares Mayoral in Oaxaca, Mexico; nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her parents, Coda Doyle Baugher and Ruby Eilene Corbin Baugher; and brother-in-law, Jason Nickoll. Shirley will also be missed by good friends and professional colleagues both nationally and internationally.
Shirley was founder and owner of The Baugher Group; Editor of the Journal of Family & Consumer Sciences; Provost & Academic Vice President of Bowling Green State University, OH; Dean of the College of Human Ecology, University of Minnesota; Chair & Professor of the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Deputy Administrator of the Cooperative Extension Service, USDA, Washington, DC from 2001-2004, under George W. Bush; and Supervisor of Home Economics for Missouri Public Schools. She was an alumnus of Trenton State College, MO and the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Kellogg Fellow. She was an active member of national and international professional organizations, a published scholar, and poet. Shirley loved her work as a writer, editor, and mentor. She was fluent in Spanish and supported improving the lives of families and individuals from various cultures.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 15th 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Diocesan Shrine, 401 Concord St, St Paul, MN. Visitation one hour prior.
