Stephen Michael Lynch

A father of four, a local businessman and Navy veteran, died at his St. Paul residence Nov. 14, 2014. He was 69 years old. A native of St. Paul who was proud of his Irish descent, Lynch attended St. Mark's School and graduated from Cretin High School in 1963 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1963 to 1967. He served on the USS Oklahoma City (CLG5). For many years he owned and operated Merit Insulation in St. Paul, a union pipe insulation business. Preceded in death by his parents Grace (Watson) and John Raymond Lynch and brothers John and Gerald; survived by children Molly (Matt), Daniel (Stacey), Kerry (Fred) and Stephen D. (Amber), eight grandchildren, seven sisters, Marietta, Marilyn, Kathleen, Grace, Ginger, Colleen and Michelle, and brother Kevin. He enjoyed 42 years of sobriety and appreciated the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was grateful for the 35 years he shared with his former wife, Ginny. He was a longtime Vikings fan who attended all four of their Super Bowl tries. He was also a longtime volunteer with the Hugo Fire Department and member of Mendakota Country Club. In recent years, debilitated by stroke, he enjoyed his grandchildren, watching sports, going out to eat with family and reading the newspaper. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and kindness to others. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Living Lynnhurst in St. Paul and the VA Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 10:00 A.M. at ASSUMPTION CHURCH, 51 7th Street West. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance.
