Wayne Anthony Selly passed on Monday 11/4, aged 80.
Wayne was born September 19th 1944 in St Paul to Bernadette Selly and Anthony Selly. He grew up in the Midway with his parents, and siblings Jean Schmidt, Carol Gibson, and Ed Selly. He lived in St Paul his entire life. Wayne graduated Brown Institute in 1964. He also married his lifelong partner that year, Brenda Jean (Muck) Selly. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Wayne is survived by his wife Brenda, his sister Carol and brother Ed, his children Deb Williams, Doug Selly, and Dominic Selly and his wife Patty Born, and grandchildren Amanda Selly, Simone Williams, Rae Selly and her husband Kevin Kane, Breton Williams, Matthew Selly, Lucia Selly, and Julian Selly.
Wayne spent his career building and maintaining radio stations, and broadcasting sporting events on radio. Radio was his passion, he built his first radio at age 12. His other passion was boating, and he loved spending time on the river with family and friends, on his boat the 'Radio Wave'. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and a dear friend to scores that knew him.
For over two decades, Wayne hosted a radio show on local station KBEM called "Sinatra and Friends with Wayne Selly". It continues to run on Sunday nights from 8-9 PM, in his honor, for weeks to come.
Wayne loved people. His humor, wit, insight, empathy, and intellect will be missed by all who knew and adored him.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, on Friday, November 15, at Simple Traditions by Bradshaw at 488 Humboldt Ave., Saint Paul. The Service will begin at 6:00 PM.
In lieu of gifts and flowers, please consider a donation to KBEM at Jazz88.fm, in Wayne's name. Wayne worked at KBEM for many years. It's a radio station housed in an inner city High School, and their programming includes mentoring students for careers in broadcasting. Wayne loved working with these kids.
